Caitlin Clark narrowly avoids fan disaster with Pro-Am shot and Nelly Korda feared the worst

Caitlin Clark’s worst fears almost came true on the golf course on Wednesday.

The WNBA star is competing in a Pro-Am at Pelican Golf Club in Florida ahead of The Annika, alongside Nelly Korda and tournament host Annika Sorenstam.

“I’ve tried to practice as much as I can,” Clark said a day before her highly-anticipated appearance.

“I’m just the average golfer. I’m going to hit some good, I’m going to hit some bad.”

Unfortunately for Clark, she began with a bad, rather than good shot off the tee.

Footage shows the Indiana Fever star almost wiping out a group of fans.

Her powerful swing sent the ball off to the left of the box, and it narrowly missed spectators who were forced to duck out of the way.

Clark’s shot drew audible gasps from the crowd, which soon turned to laughter – and a bit of relief – when it became clear that no one was hit.

Korda, the world’s number one ranked female golfer, also had a telling reaction to the shot.

The Olympic gold medallist watched Clark’s effort closely, and let out a gasp of her own as the ball flew off to the side.

Ironically, ahead of the Pro-Am, Clark admitted that her ‘number one priority’ was to avoid hitting any spectators with a ball.

“Sometimes it goes straight, but it depends. You just step up there and hope for the best,” Clark said of her shots.

“I just don’t want to hit anyone with a golf ball.

“That’s my number one priority.”

Ahead of the Pro-Am, it was confirmed that the Fever star would play the first nine holes alongside Korda, and the back nine with Sorenstam.

While Clark got off to a far from ideal start, she later showed serious improvement.

On hole 5, she pitched out from the rough before sinking a long putt for an impressive par.

Clark was heavily applauded for her effort, as footage shared on social media shows.

The WNBA’s Rookie of the Year was clearly fired up after making the shot, and will want to keep hold of that momentum as she makes her way around the course.
