Elon Musk has sold his 16,000-square-foot mansion in Hillsborough, California – a wealthy enclave of Silicon Valley just south of San Francisco. The property is for $30 million. Musk originally wanted to sell it for $37.5 million, then reduced the price to $31.99 million in October, according to MLS records.

The 100-year-old property has a long history before Musk, having built it in 1912 by a Frenchman. The European-style estate is one of the largest in the area, with hiking trails and a lake. The buyer has not been disclosed.

It was listed for $100 million in 2013, but the asking price was reduced to $29.85 million in 2016. Musk bought it in 2017 for $23.4 million, according to public records.

Before selling his last home, Musk moved into a $50,000, 400-square-foot prefab home in Texas.

The buyer has not been disclosed.

The Tesla and SpaceX boss has said selling off his properties is a way to speed up his space exploration goals, and he has admitted he wants to accelerate that goal by raising as much capital as possible.
