Breanna Stewart gave a perfect answer when she was asked to choose between the two standout rookies, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.
Despite the WNBA season yet to reach its conclusion with Stewart and the New York Liberty battling it out in the finals against the Minnesota Lynx to become league champions, talk is still revolving around the league’s brightest stars.
While Clark’s Indiana Fever debut year ended in the off-season with defeat against the Connecticut Sun in round one, and Reese’s inaugural year with the Chicago Sky ended prematurely through injury as the franchise failed to qualify for the play-offs, two of the most historic rookies in the league’s history are still being discussed.
Amid her starring role in the Finals, Stewart was asked to choose between the two rookies. But the 30-year-old refused to give a definitive answer, instead lauding both players’ impact on the league.
“I mean, it’s not an either-or with Angel or Caitlin,” Stewart said. “They both came into the league this year and did great things. Angel being atop the rebound leaders for the entire season. Caitlin, the assists.”
She then continued to discuss Clark and Reese’s impact off the court. “And not only their impact on the court but also the presence that they have off,” Stewart added. “The fans that they are continuing to bring in. It’s been exciting to see, and I know they are only going to continue to grow.”

Clark was drafted as the No. 1 overall pick out of the 2024 WNBA Draft and went on to land the Rookie of the Year Award following a record-breaking campaign. The former Iowa starlet shattered records, including the most assists and most points in a single season by a rookie.
Whereas, Reese stood in a league of her own with her rebound statistics. The Sky star broke the records of most rebounds in a season, before A’ja Wilson took the feat in the play-offs, and the most consecutive double-doubles. The two did team up in the All-Star side where they lined up for Team WNBA against Team USA ahead of the Olympics, winning 117-109.
Meanwhile, for Stewart, the Liberty star will be back in action for game three of the WNBA Finals as she and New York look to pick up from where they left off against the Lynx. After throwing away an 18-point lead in game one, the Liberty leveled up the finals with an 80-66 victory in game two.
Stewart spearheaded the Liberty side as she played 38 minutes, scoring a game-high 21 points with eight assists, five rebounds and recorded a career-high seven steals. “I couldn’t wait to come back here Sunday and change the narrative a little bit,” Stewart said after the game two victory. “I just wanted to make it very difficult for every single one of the players I was going up against today.
