WNBA star Brittney Griner spent roughly 10 months in a Russian prison before the U.S. brought her home in exchange for Viktor Bout.

The WNBA star recently made a huge life decision alongside her wife.

The couple has decided to make Phoenix their home for good.

“Phoenix is home,” Griner told reporters. “Me and my wife literally just got a place [here]. This is it.”

The 2023 season was Griner’s first time back on a basketball court since she was finally freed from a Russian prison. The nine-time WNBA All-Star was released from Russian prison last December in a prisoner swap for convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout, and then made her emotional return to basketball in May.

During the 2023 season, Griner averaged 17.5 points per game and grabbed 195 rebounds while making the eighth All-Star Game of her career.

Last month, Griner was awarded a share of the WNBA Comeback Player of the Year by the Associated Press as she served as co-Comeback Player of the Year with Napheesa Collier.

Unfortunately, Brittney Griner’s return season to the Phoenix Mercury won’t result in a trip to the playoffs as the team finished with a 9-31 record that saw them win just one road game.
