The WNBA has made a baffling announcement that will undoubtedly leave fans unhappy.

It was expected that Indiana Fever Rookie Caitlin Clark would participate in the three-point contest this All-Star Weekend, yet neither she nor the New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu, who won it last year, will be involved.

The WNBA revealed the participants on Wednesday, with Clark and Ionescu excluded (H/T the New York Post).

Jonquel Jones (New York Liberty), Sophie Cunningham (Phoenix Mercury), Allisha Gray (Atlanta Dream), Brittney Griner (Phoenix Mercury), Marina Mabrey (Connecticut Sun), and Erica Wheeler (Indiana Fever) were all named as contestants.

Clark is third in made three-pointers in the WNBA this season, having scored 71 so far. Ionescu is right in front of her with 74.

The Liberty star scored a record 37 points (WNBA and NBA) in last year’s three-point contest and went up against Steph Curry in a first-time two-person shootout during the 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend. Curry won 29-26.

The three-point contest is scheduled for this Friday, with the All-Star Game to take place on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark set the WNBA single-game record for assists in a loss to the Dallas Wings on Wednesday night with 19.

She now boasts the Fever’s single-season assists record, having dished out a total of 213, while she’s also the fastest player to register 400 points and 200 assists in one season. She’s only needed 26 games.
