WNBA Finals MVP Jonquel Jones spoke on the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky rookies.

The 2024 WNBA Finals between the Minnesota Lynx and New York Liberty needed five games to decide a winner. Taking home their first championship in franchise history, New York defeated Minnesota behind a historic performance from Finals MVP Jonquel Jones.

Averaging 17.8 points and 7.6 rebounds in the Finals win over New York, Jones did so on 56.1% from the field and 42.9% from three-point range. This combination of volume and efficiency made Jones the easy choice for this award, especially since her star teammates Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu struggled mightily from the field.

In a WNBA season that was historic, largely due to the rookie class headlined by Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, it was the eight-year veteran Jones who took home the league’s most sought-after honor.

Appearing on the latest episode of Flau’jae Johnson’s “Best of Both Worlds with Flau’jae” podcast, Jones delivered a strong message on Clark and Reese.

“I’m proud of ya’ll when I’m watching ya’ll do what ya’ll doing,” Jones said to Johnson. “You and Angel and Caitlin… Ya’ll really are elevating women’s basketball and I feel like we gotta make sure we give ya’ll flowers, too.”

While giving Johnson her credit for helping push women’s basketball forward, Jones went out of her way to mention the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky rookies.

There were some great battles between these three young players when Clark was at Iowa and the Johnson-Reese duo was at LSU. This includes the 2023 National Championship Game that many feel changed women’s basketball forever.
