A jaw-dropping photo has emerged of the lightning that delayed the Kansas City Chiefs-Baltimore Raven NFL Kickoff Game at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night.
The Kansas City Chiefs were set to kick off their Super Bowl title defense against Lamar Jackson’s Ravens at 8:20 p.m. EST. The start time was pushed back by 20 minutes because of implement weather, with kickoff set for 8:40 p.m. EST.
The NBC Sports X/Twitter account shared a shocking (no pun intended) image of the lightning bolts in the sky above Arrowhead Stadium before kickoff. Queue playing AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” hit song:
The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Ravens 17-10 in last year’s AFC Championship Game en route to a victory over the San Francisco 49ers in overtime of Super Bowl 58. With the win, the Chiefs became the first team to repeat as Super Bowl champions since the 2003 and ’04 New England Patriots.
Including the postseason, Patrick Mahomes is 4-1 in his career against the Ravens with 13 touchdowns and only two interceptions. The only loss was a 36-35 loss in Baltimore in Week 2 of the 2023 season, after a late Kansas City fumble cost them the chance to win.
Kansas City Chiefs Aim For A Three-Peat
No team in NFL history has won three straight Super Bowls. The 1990 San Francisco 49ers and ’94 Dallas Cowboys were somewhat close, losing in the NFC Championship Game after winning consecutive championships.
Since Mahomes became Kansas City’s starting quarterback in 2018, the team has played in four Super Bowls and six straight AFC Championship Games. With three championships in five years, there’s no question that the Chiefs are more than capable of completing the first three-peat in NFL history.
The Ravens are one of the few teams in the AFC that can realistically challenge the Chiefs for the Lamar Hunt Trophy. They could make a giant statement with a win at Arrowhead Stadium tonight.
