Caitlin Clark’s rookie season with the Indiana Fever was one of the most memorable in recent memory.

She instantly became the league’s top playmaker, averaging 8.4 assists per game. In total, she recorded 337 assists on the season, the new WNBA single-season record.

On Thursday, the WNBA finally announced that Clark had won the 2024 Rookie of the Year award. This prompted an immediate post from the Fever that included each player’s congratulations to Clark, including upcoming free agent Kelsey Mitchell.

“I want to tell you to give yourself some grace, kid,” Mitchell said. “You’ve done a lot of things that not a lot of people can do. From me to you, I’m always going to be a fan. I’m always going to be in your corner. I’m always going to be in your backcourt.”

With Mitchell’s future with Indiana in question, some fans took notice of the last line in her message to Clark, where she mentioned that she will always be in her backcourt. There have been some rumors of Mitchell’s potential departure in the offseason, but fans are now convinced that the former Ohio State Buckeyes star just revealed her future plans by saying this.

They took to social media to leave their thoughts.

“‘I’m always going to be in your backcourt’ Kelsey isn’t going anywhere LFG,” one fan said.

“’I’m always going to be in your backcourt’ KELSEY AINT GOING NOWHERE”

“I so love this team so much. And KM ain’t leaving her PG. Congrats CC on Winning ROTY.”

“‘I’m always gonna be a fan, I’m always gonna be in your corner, I’m always gonna be in your backcourt’ – Kelsey Mitchell’s congratulations to Caitlin Clark. A good sign of things to come for Fever fans. We need you here, KM!”

“Kelsey Mitchell basically said, ‘I’m not leaving'”

“Kelsey Mitchell’s got me the most. Always going to be in your backcourt. So that means you’ll be back. Best backcourt in the league”

Mitchell was a key part of the Fever’s success this season. She averaged 19.2 points, tied for most on the team with Clark, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists. She will undoubtedly be Indian’s top priority during free agency. If they can lock her up, the Fever will be a threat for the foreseeable future with the All-Star trio of Clark, Mitchell and Aliyah Boston.
