Gabby Thomas recently recounted her surprise visit to see Caitlin Clark.
Caitlin Clark is one of the most influential athletes in American sports following her record-breaking, Rookie of the Year season as the WNBA’s No. 1 overall pick.
American Olympic heroes Simone Biles and Gabby Thomas went to see Clark in action earlier this year, attending a game at Indiana’s Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Aug. 28.
After the game, the all-time great gymnast and superstar sprinter surprised Clark and her Fever teammates in the locker room.
Thomas recently recounted the moment in an interview at the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon, where she’s serving as the Grand Marshal.
“Simone and I went to the Fever game, which was incredible. The energy in that stadium was fantastic,” Thomas said.
“We actually surprised Caitlin. We were hiding next to their locker room and waiting for them to run out,” she continued. “The entire team was floored and Caitlin was so shocked… Their reactions were just incredible.”
“It’s so great to see the support and excitement athletes have for one another,” Thomas added. “We’re so engrossed in our own sports and our own worlds, then you realize ‘Oh, we’re all supporting and watching each other.'”
Thomas and Biles took home three gold medals each from their respective appearances at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Biles also added to her historic medal total with a silver-medal finish in the Floor Exercise.
Clark shattered several all-time league records in her rookie season, averaging 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and a league-leading 8.4 assists per game as she led the Fever to their first playoff appearance since 2016. She became the first rookie to record a triple-double, and set all-time WNBA records for single-season and single-game assists.
Clark will return to the court for her second WNBA season as a member of the Fever in 2025.
