Back in 2022, WNBA All-Star Kelsey Mitchell signed a three-year, $618,000 contract with the Indiana Fever after her rookie deal expired. Following the 2024 season that saw Mitchell and the Fever eliminated two games into the playoffs, the former Ohio State guard’s contract has come to an end.
With Caitlin Clark joining the team as the No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, Indiana had found itself a future with Clark, Mitchell and the 2023 No. 1 pick, Aliyah Boston. But many are still waiting on the impending free agency decision from Mitchell.
Kelly Krauskopf, who the Fever rehired as their President of Basketball Operations following the season, has made it clear that Mitchell is a key piece for the future of the Indiana squad. With the organization showing that they want Mitchell back, the only question remaining is whether Mitchell wants to return.

On Monday, nearly three weeks following the Fever’s 2024 season, Mitchell may have helped ease some fans’ concerns as she appeared at Gainbridge Fieldhouse with Clark and Connor McCaffery to watch the Indiana Pacers preseason matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies.
With the latest sighting, Fever fans are convinced that Mitchell will be staying with the team for a few more years, which would give Indiana a top trio in the league for the foreseeable future. These fans took to social media to leave their comments about Mitchell.
“This must mean Kelsey is re-signing,” one fan said.
“Kelsey girl you ain’t going anywhere! Something we love to see fr.”
“Kelsey aint going nowhere! Keep dreaming though”
“KELSEY NOT GOING NO WHERE”
“kels isn’t goin anywhere”
“Kelsey looks really good here. She’s definitely staying with the Fever”
Kelsey Mitchell is coming off the best season of her seven-year WNBA career. In 40 regular-season games, the 28-year-old averaged career highs of 19.2 points per game on 46.8% shooting.
2024 also marked the first year that Mitchell made the playoffs. The last time the Fever clinched a postseason spot was in 2016, when WNBA legend Tamika Catchings was still with the team. If the Fever can bring the star guard back, they will have a bright future for years to come.
