Tom Cruise, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Snoop Dogg and Billie Eilish feature in incredible Olympics handover

The handover from Paris to Los Angeles was hailed as one of the best ever.

Tom Cruise made an incredible surprise appearance at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony to make the all-important handover to Los Angeles for the 2028 showpiece.

After rumours swirled online, the Mission Impossible star abseiled down the Stade de France and high-fived Olympic athletes before collecting the Olympic flag from LA mayor Karen Bass and US gymnast sensation Simone Biles.

He then proceeded to exit the stadium on a motorbike before getting on a jet and travelling across the world to skydive and arrive at the Hollywood sign, which was neatly modified with the Olympic rings.

He then passed the flag on to American cyclist Kate Courtney, who gave it to four-time Olympic gold medallist Michael Johnson at the Coliseum.

Skateboarder Jagger Eaton then assumed the flag and made his way to a special Red Hot Chilli Peppers performance of ‘Can’t Stop’ on Venice beach in California.

It was then Billie Eilish’s turn to perform as the 22-year-old belted out her brand new hit ‘Birds of a Feather’, followed by Snoop Dogg getting in on the action with ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ and bringing in Dr Dre for ‘The Next Episode’.

The rap legend was absolutely everywhere in Paris, dancing alongside the US women’s gymnastics team, dressing up in equestrian gear to support American horseback riders and opening the breakdancing tournament.

Reportedly paid $500k (£392,165) plus expenses in Paris, Snoop proudly waved the Olympic flag and gave the world a taste of what we can expect in the City of Angels.

The Olympic flame was lit to make the handover official.

Fans hailed the closing part to the ceremony and are already counting the days to the next Games.

One wrote: “The Los Angeles handover is getting me in the mood for 2028!”

Another said: “Nothing like a cheesy Hollywood Tom Cruise handover to Los Angeles 2028, with a bit of Chilli Peppers thrown in.”

A third added: “Nice handover Tom Cruise and well played LA. Excited for Los Angeles already!”

A fourth commented: “You’ve got to give it to USA, fantastic handover of the Olympic flag. Los Angeles games will be fire.”

LA last hosted the Olympics back in 1984 and their next event will see the return of five sports.

Cricket, lacrosse, flag football and baseball/softball have all been included.
