Snoop Dog turned his hand to sports broadcasting.
Snoop Dogg tried his hand at punditry during the Olympic Games and footage has gone viral.
Snoop Dogg is one of the most successful rappers and music producers of all time, having sold an estimated 37 million albums worldwide.
That doesn’t stop him from having plenty of other interests though, sports included.
The 52-year-old is an avid sports fan, with a particular interest in basketball, American football and soccer. He once sported a Norwich City shirt during a live performance.
Snoop has been enjoying himself at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, both as a spectator and as a special correspondent for American TV broadcaster NBC.
He took part in the Olympic torch relay ahead of the opening ceremony last week, and has been spotted at several events including swimming.
Snoop joined Mike Trico in NBC’s studio in Paris to look over some of the moments of the Games so far, including France’s victory in the rugby sevens tournament.
Footage has emerged of Snoop watching a clip of French star Antoine Dupont speeding down the wing on his way to setting up his side’s second try in the gold medal match against Fiji.
Snoop likened Dupont’s ability to that of an American football running-back, saying: “I need him at running back, on a quick toss, 37 toss to the left, he’s got wheels, he deals, he falls, he spills.
“When he gave this to his homes to get five and stay alive. See, that’s five points and now they groovin’.”
When Trico showed Snoop footage of him crying during the playing of the American national anthem at the swimming, Snoop said: “Mike you’re gonna make me cry man, come on man I wasn’t supposed to do that on this TV show. Why you tapping with my emotions man, I don’t need that man!
“Star Spangled Banner, when I hear that there’s something emotional about that song and just being there with all those Americans.”
In response to Trico joking that Snoop could have a career in sports broadcasting, the rapper replied: “Somebody got to do it, why not me?”
Viewers found Snoop’s punditry entertaining and a breathe of fresh air.
One viewer commented: “He’s doing the most fundamental thing in sports broadcasting: here is a really cool and exciting thing, look at these people doing it in a cool and exciting way, it’s worth your time. Lots of more ‘serious’ broadcasters could learn.”
Others seemed to agree. One fan said: “I think I’d watch more sport if he was commentating!”
Another replied: “Now that was engaging.”
It’s not the first time Snoop has been involved in sports broadcasting, having previously provided play-by-play commentary on professional hockey and baseball in the United States, as well as UFC.
