This would be a huge statement.
A shock Premier League side has entered the race for Man City attacker Julian Alvarez, with the Argentine rumoured to be heading towards the Etihad exit door.
Alvarez has been at City after joining Pep Guardiola’s side from Argentinian giants River Plate for around £14m back in 2022.
The Argentine won the Treble in his first season with the club as City won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League equalling the achievement set by Man Utd in 1999.
Alvarez claimed the Premier League once again this season, as well as the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup as the silverware continued to roll in following his World Cup success in 2022.
With Erling Haaland the clear first choice ahead of Alvarez at City, the Argentine has been heavily linked with a move away this summer and a Premier League side has now entered the race.
According to The Mirror, Arsenal are monitoring the 24-year-old’s current situation following his fall-out with Pep Guardiola.
The report claims that Arsenal are prepared to head into the season without signing a striker, with the signings of Riccardo Calafiori as well as David Raya signing from Brentford permanently.
However, Alvarez’s precarious situation has alerted Mikel Arteta and it could turn out to be an opportunity too good to ignore for the Gunners.

Alvarez could help solve Arteta’s problems at the top of the pitch, with Gabriel Jesus failing to become the talisman a lot of Arsenal fans expected.
The World Cup winner has scored 20 goals in the Premier League for Guardiola’s side in 67 appearances with just 44 starts.
The report also claims that it would take an overall package of around £80million for City to consider letting Alvarez go which could end up being too expensive for Arteta.
However, with home-grown Emile Smith-Rowe leaving the club for Fulham and more expected to depart the Emirates, it could be that Arsenal will have the facilities to test City’s resilience over their price tag.
