Rodri picked a shock name as his GOAT.
Manchester City star Rodri had a shock pick when asked who he believed was the ‘greatest of all time’ at the 2023/24 PFA awards as he snubbed both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Rodri continued his fantastic couple of years during the summer, as he played a vital role in Spain becoming European champions at Euro 2024 in Germany.
The Manchester City midfielder’s partnership with Fabian Ruiz proved to be too much for any international side at the tournament, with Rodri picking up the Player of the Tournament award after their final victory against England.
Despite an exceptional tournament, Rodri was taken off at half-time of the final with an injury which was left unaddressed with the 28-year-old not communicating with the City medical team over the summer.
This led to the Spaniard’s absence from the City squad for their Premier League opener, with Pep Guardiola confirming the situation prior to the match.
“He didn’t train. I didn’t see him yet. I think he feels good but he has to return to training. We’ll see when he starts to move his body how he feels. No chance of him playing,” Guardiola explained.
Despite being left out of the City squad, there was no chance Rodri would be left out of the PFA Team of the Year, with the annual PFA awards taking place in Manchester on Tuesday night.
Rodri was named alongside teammates, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, and Kyle Walker in the team.
At the ceremony, Rodri was asked a series of questions including who he thought the GOAT was, and it’s fair to say he may have been the first person to ever pick this particular player.
When asked Rodri responded ‘Kevin De Bruyne’ with no stutter, completely snubbing both Ronaldo and Messi despite playing against them both.
De Bruyne and Rodri do have a pretty sensational record together, with four consecutive titles so it’s no surprise he rates the Belgian so highly.

Rodri may have had a slight bias when answering the questions, however, with the Spanish international choosing a teammate, past or present, for every single category.
