Pep Guardiola's top target to replace Julian Alvarez at Man City makes decision on his future

Pep Guardiola has a dream target to replace Julian Alvarez but a deal looks difficult to do.

Pep Guardiola’s preferred target to replace Julian Alvarez has already made a decision on his future, according to reports.

Alvarez is set to sign for Atletico Madrid after the Spanish club agreed an £82 million fee with City for the Argentine.

The 24-year-old will be City’s record sale by some distance and represents a massive profit on the £14 million they paid to sign him from River Plate.

There has been much discussion about how City will look to replace Alvarez given the goal contributions he provided even without being a regular starter.

According to AS, Guardiola’s absolute dream would be to sign Rodrygo Goes from Real Madrid.

The Brazilian’s game-time could be affected by the additions of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick this season.

However, the outlet claims Rodrygo has no interest in leaving the Santiago Bernabeu and remains more than happy.

He is still contracted until 2028 and it’s claimed there has been no approach or even an enquiry.

But Rodrygo is believed to be firm in his stance and not even a personal phone call from Guardiola would change his mind.

The links to City have been going around for a while and the 23-year-old appeared to hint an exit in an interview with DAZN.

Yet the winger proceeded to release a statement in response, claiming it was taken out of contract and reiterating his desire to stay put.

“A very annoying situation occurred today, where one of my interviews was completely taken out of context,” he said.

“To be very direct, I am very happy at Real Madrid. I live a dream every day and it does not cross my mind to leave the club of my life. Now we continue with history to make – by 15. Hala Madrid and nothing more.”

Rodrygo has 54 goals in 41 assists in 216 appearances for Los Blancos, winning three La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues.
