Olympics viewers all have same complaint after watching Tom Cruise stunt during Paris closing ceremony

Plenty of viewers thought the same thing.

Viewers of the Olympic Games closing ceremony all had the same complaint about a stunt performed by Hollywood star Tom Cruise.

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games drew to a close on Sunday (August 11), with thousands of spectators packing into the Stade de France to watch the closing ceremony.

As is tradition, the closing ceremony centred around the idea of ‘passing’ the Olympics onto the next host, in this case Los Angeles.

L.A will host the 2028 Games, and a host of American stars were involved in the celebration.

One of them was actor Tom Cruise, who performed an extravagant routine as he entered the stadium.

Cruise appeared on the Stade de France roof before he was lowered down to the stage on a wire, where he collected the Olympic flag from the mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass, and Team USA gymnast Simone Biles.

A movie of Cruise was then played, in which he flew over the Atlantic Ocean, skydived out of a plane and raised the flag over the Hollywood sign.

The film featured performances from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg and Billie Eilish.

Cruise’ appearance had been rumoured to be spectacular, but in the end viewers were left a bit disappointed by what they saw.

One wrote on X: “Um, is this Tom Cruise’s big stunt?”

While another said: “Tom cruise entrance was underwhelming.”

And a third added: “That Tom Cruise thing was underwhelming to be honest,” while another commented: “Stunning and wonderfully pointless.”

It’s not the first time that Cruise has been involved in the Olympic Games; in 2004 the actor carried the Olympic torch through Los Angeles during a worldwide relay event.

Speaking ahead of the closing ceremony, the 62-year-old said: “It’s awesome.

“Great stories, great athletes.

“It’s incredible what they have to do, the sense of accomplishment.”
