Man Utd fans are convinced they've uncovered a gem following pre-season masterclass against Rosenborg

The 20-year-old was one of United’s standout performers on Monday.

Manchester United fans are convinced they’ve discovered another top young talent after his “amazing” display in Monday’s opening pre-season game.

Erik ten Hag’s side began their preparations for the 2024/25 campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Eliteserien side Rosenborg BK in Norway.

A late goal from Noah Jean Holm put a dampener on United’s first outing of pre-season but for many, the performance of Czech goalkeeper Radek Vitek made up for it.

Vitek, who joined the Reds in 2020 from Sigma Olomouc, was included in the squad for Monday’s game alongside a number of academy products, including Harry Amass, Jack Fletcher and Toby Collyer.

And he repaid Ten Hag’s faith with a superb display between the sticks, making seven saves in total.

A frustrated Ten Hag praised the 20-year-old goalkeeper after the full-time whistle, saying: “Let’s say he [Vitek] had the opportunity to shine thanks to the team’s performance, which was not good enough.”

Vitek, who made 18 appearances for League Two side Accrington Stanley last season, earned a huge amount of praise on social media.

Here’s how fans reacted to Vitek’s outing against Rosenborg.

One said: “Get Vitek another good loan – He’s been amazing today. Strong loan with Accrington last season, needs another good one this season. I know people may say keep him as number 2, but he needs game time.”

A second wrote: “Vitek with an outrageous save, blimey what a game he’s having,” while a third commented: “The academy have spawned another excellent keeper in Vitek.”

A fourth said during the game: “No idea how United aren’t behind. Vitek in goal making some very good saves – easily the best United player in the first half.”

A fifth added: “Vitek has been absolutely amazing today. He definitely should be considered for the no:2 spot.”

After the full-time whistle, Vitek also gave his take on the game, saying: “I’m happy with some saves, but only victory counts in the end.”

United will be hoping to improve on Monday’s performance when they come up against Scottish Premiership side Rangers on Saturday.
