Liverpool fans demand Joe Gomez is used in the 'most outrageous swap deal of the summer'

Joe Gomez didn’t travel with Liverpool for their Premier League opener at Ipswich Town.

Liverpool fans are demanding Joe Gomez is used in an ambitious swap deal this summer.

Gomez was left out of the Liverpool squad for their Premier League opener against Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Without the defender, the Reds ran out 2-0 winners as goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah ensured they left Portman Road with all three points.

Gomez didn’t travel to Ipswich as he considers his future amid reported interest from Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Fulham and clubs abroad.

Liverpool fans want him to end up at Newcastle as part of a swap deal for Bruno Guimaraes.

X user @Mobyhaque1 proposed: “If Newcastle comes back for Joe Gomez, do a swap + cash deal for Bruno Guimaraes, we need him more than we do Anthony Gordon. We don’t need Anthony given options we have up top today.”

Liverpool supporters agreed with the swap deal between Gomez and Guimaraes as they made their feelings clear.

One commented: “Swap Gomez for Guimaraes, then go back for Gordon after Barca overpay for Lucho.”

A second added: “Absolutely this. They want 90mil for Bruno. Were willing to call Gomez 45mil earlier in summer.”

A third said: “Scoring isn’t an issue, we need a midfielder.”

Arne Slot, who got his Liverpool reign off to a winning start, has yet to sign anyone this summer.

It comes after the club failed to acquire the services of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.

Liverpool wanted to recruit a No.6 this summer following the retirement of Thiago Alcantara.

Guimaraes would fit the bill as fans hope the club can engineer a deal with Gomez, who is exploring his options ahead of a move away from Anfield.

The Brazilian international has starred for Newcastle since his transfer from Lyon in January 2022.

The 26-year-old, who signed a new five-year contract last year, has played 86 top flight games for the club and is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the league.
