Jurgen Klopp takes first role since leaving position as Liverpool manager (an)

The legendary former Anfield boss has had his next job confirmed after being succeeded by Arne Slot.

Jurgen Klopp has secured his first new role since stepping down as Liverpool manager.

The 57-year-old left his job in the Anfield dugout this summer after almost a decade in charge of the club since moving from Borussia Dortmund in 2015.

During his tenure, Klopp won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup as the Anfield side emerged as the most consistent competitors and threats to Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering Manchester City.

Klopp confirmed in January he would stand down as Liverpool boss this summer and take a break from football manager and has even turned down an international position since his departure.

Klopp’s final season at Liverpool ended with a third-place finish in the Premier League, silverware in the form of the League Cup and ending his time in charge with a 2-0 final-day victory over Wolves.

He has been replaced by Arne Slot, who has signed a three-year deal at Liverpool after leaving Dutch side Feyenoord and has already made his mark with some intriguing training methods since his arrival.

Slot praised the support Klopp gave him after it was announced he would succeed the German at Anfield.

He said: “He gave me more than a few good tips but I think what stood out for me was that he was so happy for me and that – and I think he said this in the media as well – he would be my biggest fan from now on because he supports Liverpool in the best possible way, and you don’t see this very often.

“So, it says a lot about his character, the way he handled this situation as well.”

Klopp confirmed he would take a break from football management for a year after leaving Liverpool and has also ruled out the possibility of one day managing another club in England and where he ends up again in a football management capacity is yet to become clear.

He has spent most of this summer entertaining fans with his new Instagram account but has now secured his first gig since leaving Anfield.

Though Klopp is no longer Liverpool boss, his connection to the club has continued after it was confirmed he has become honorary ambassador for the LFC Foundation, which is the club’s official charity.

Klopp said: “The LFC Foundation does an incredible job in the community, both in the Liverpool City Region and beyond.

“I am really proud to continue my work with them and be named the first ever LFC Foundation honorary ambassador.

“I look forward to seeing what we can do with that now that I have more time on my hands.”
