Jordan Pickford stopped from doing 'usual process' by referee in England vs Switzerland penalty shootout

Jordan Pickford was stopped from doing his ‘usual process’ by the match referee.

Jordan Pickford says he was stopped from doing his ‘usual process’ by the match referee during England’s penalty shootout against Switzerland.

Pickford starred as England booked their place in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

The Three Lions beat Switzerland 5-3 in a penalty shootout.

An image of Pickford’s water bottle emerged online following his heroics as he saved Manuel Akanji’s spot-kick.

Speaking to ITV, the England goalkeeper revealed that he was denied from doing his ‘usual process’ by Italian referee Daniele Orsato.

The Everton star explained how he likes to give the players the ball, but he was prevented from doing his usual tactics.

“Firstly, the referee didn’t let me do me usual process, so I’ve got to adapt… because I like to give the lads the ball. I could only do it for the first time and luckily, I saved it,” he said.

Pickford also praised England’s penalty takers as Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney and Trent Alexander-Arnold made no mistake from the spot.

He singled out Saka for special praise following the Arsenal player’s penalty miss in the final of Euro 2020.

The Three Lions resume their campaign next Wednesday when they face the winner of the Netherlands vs. Turkey.
