Jamie Carragher’s immediate reaction to England penalty decision has got everybody talking

England were awarded a controversial penalty against the Netherlands.

Jamie Carragher’s reaction to England receiving a penalty against the Netherlands has got fans talking.

On Wednesday night, Gareth Southgate’s men arrived at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund to take on the Netherlands for a place in Sunday’s Euro 2024 final against Spain.

Ronald Koeman’s men got off to the perfect start after Xavi Simons’ brilliant strike in the seventh minute made it 1-0 to the Dutch.

However, England were given the chance to level proceedings in the 16th minute after VAR felt Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries had fouled Harry Kane inside the penalty area.

The England skipper stepped up and dispatched the spot kick to make it 1-1.

However, former England and Liverpool defender Carragher felt the decision was the wrong call.

He wrote on social media: “Never a penalty,” with two crying laughter emojis.

Reacting to Carragher’s statement, one fan said: “Studs up pushed vertically towards Kane and the ball. Clear foul, clear penalty.”

Another tweeted: “I don’t understand the fuss I thought the foul on Kane was clear penalty. Dumfries was nowhere near the ball.”

A third fan added: “Clear foul on Kane, even if dumfries was trying to block, he did it in a dangerous manner thus resulting in a foul and yellow for dangerous playing.”

Someone else wrote: “If that is a penalty, I am done watching football. Disgusting sport.”

A fifth commented: “Never a penalty anywhere.”

Former Arsenal and England man Lee Dixon said on ITV: “I’m pleased, don’t get me wrong but you have to challenge for the ball. I don’t think it’s a penalty but I don’t care.”
