Gareth Southgate delivered an emotional speech following England’s win at Euro 2024.
Gareth Southgate gave an incredibly emotional interview after England reached the final of Euro 2024.
England came from behind to beat the Netherlands 2-1 on Wednesday.
Harry Kane’s penalty cancelled out Xavi Simons’ opener as he levelled proceedings from the spot after a controversial VAR decision, with Denzel Dumfries having a surprise reaction to the penalty incident.
Southgate brought on Cole Palmer and Ollie Watkins as they combined brilliantly for England’s winner, with the Aston Villa star revealing a scarily accurate prediction during his post-match interview.
The Three Lions boss fielded questions from the media after his side’s famous win in Dortmund.
And the 53-year-old delivered a passionate speech as he addressed the criticism he has faced at the tournament.
‘We all want to be loved, right?’ 🥹

“We all want to be loved, right? When you’re doing something for your country, you’re a proud Englishman – you don’t feel that back and all you read is criticism, it’s hard,” he said.
“To be able to celebrate a second final is very special. If I had not been on the grass, I would have been watching and celebrating like [the fans] were.”
Southgate added: “I’m the one that has to pick a team so to be able to give them a night like tonight was very special.
“We have come here to win and play the team who have been the best in the tournament [in the final]. But we’re still here and fighting.”
Having suffered heartbreak against Italy at Euro 2020, Southgate and his England side are determined to go all the way this time around.
They face Spain in the final on Sunday for the Euros title.
