Footage of Robbie Brady’s incredible 40-yard goal for Preston North End against Liverpool in Friday’s pre-season friendly has emerged.

The Championship side beat Liverpool 1-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the AXA Training Centre on Friday afternoon.

The Reds fielded a number of stars in the fixture, including Mo Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai, although most of their key players were unavailable following the conclusion of Euro 2024 and the Copa America.

Upon announcing the full-time result, North End tweeted that former Manchester United and Burnley winger Brady had scored an ‘incredible 40-yard lob’.

Given the game was played behind-closed-doors, fans would be forgiven for thinking any images of the goal would be consigned to within their own imagination.

But PNE have now posted footage of the goal – and it is something special.

Jarell Quansah’s forward pass to Conor Bradley was intercepted by Brady, who took one touch before spotting Liverpool goalkeeper Varoslav Jaros off his line.

The Irishman then fired an effort over Jaros’ head, with the ball crashing onto the crossbar before going in.

The game represented Liverpool’s first unofficial encounter under the management of Arne Slot, who elected to name Salah as captain for his first half appearance.

The Reds’ first televised pre-season match takes place on July 27, when they face Real Betis in the United States.

Liverpool are still awaiting the return of most of their senior players from international duty, with Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson and Alexis Mac Allister among those still absent from the AXA Training Centre.

Their first Premier League game of the new campaign is a trip to Portman Road to take on newly-promoted Ipswich Town on August 17.

Preston North End, meanwhile, kick off their Championship season at home to Sheffield United on August 9.
