Fans spot what Marcus Rashford said to Alejandro Garnacho after shocking Man Utd miss and it speaks volumes

Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho missed an open net just yards out after being picked out by Marcus Rashford against Fulham.

Fans have spotted what Marcus Rashford said to Alejandro Garnacho after his shocking open goal miss for Manchester United against Fulham.

The Red Devils started the new Premier League campaign with a narrow win after new signing Joshua Zirkzee came off the bench to score a late winner on his debut.

It was a near carbon copy to the 1-0 win over Wolves last season, where United were unconvincing at times but scored late on to pick up the victory.

On this occasion though, United should have scored a second goal to wrap up proceedings.

Marcus Rashford raced through after a wild missed clearance from Calvin Bassey and put it on a plate for Alejandro Garnacho.

Garnacho came off the bench to set up Zirkzee, following up his goal in the Community Shield at Wembley.

But he somehow spurned the golden opportunity and put the ball wide, falling to the turf in disbelief.

Garnacho was gutted at the end of the game but Rashford was quick to comfort him at the final whistle.

In footage shared on Reddit, the England international appeared to tell the Argentine, “Don’t worry” regarding the miss.

United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, now back as a coach, also went over to cheer Garnacho up.

Garnacho enjoyed a breakthrough season for United last season and scored in the FA Cup final triumph over rivals City.

But after playing at the Copa America with Argentina, he missed the pre-season tour and Erik ten Hag has been careful in managing the winger’s minutes.

“I explained the same about [Joshua] Zirkzee, it is the same about Alejandro, you saw his background, he played in an FA Cup final and then in Copa America,” Ten Hag said, as per The Mirror.

“He had one game and then he had his break. He needed a break and we had to bring him into the tour.

“Fitness-wise, it would have been the best decision to be in the tour, to work on his fitness. After a long season as a young player, he needed a break. He came late into pre-season and we have players in wide areas who have performed very well. That is why he started on the bench.”
