Enzo Maresca decides ANOTHER Chelsea player is out of his plans as ruthless squad cut continues

The new Chelsea manager is not holding back.

New Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca’s brutal clear-out of the club’s squad has continued, with another player axed from his plans.

Maresca has not held back in his assessment of Chelsea’s squad since joining the club in June following the dismissal of Mauricio Pochettino.

The Italian manager recently revealed that over 20 of the club’s players were not training with him and the rest of the squad, with players like Romelu Lukaku and Trevoh Chalobah seemingly out of favour.

And now, new reports have revealed another player is not included in Maresca’s vision for Chelsea.

According to The Guardian, Axel Disasi is not a part of Maresca’s long term plans and a new centre-back could be brought to the club this summer if a move for Disasi can be arranged.

The French defender only joined Chelsea last August, agreeing a six-year deal after signing from French club Monaco for a fee of £38.5million.

He made 44 appearances for the London club last season, scoring a goal on his debut against Liverpool in Chelsea’s first match of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

Yet, Disasi was not included in Maresca’s match day squad for the 2024/25 opener against Manchester City, which Chelsea lost 2-0.

However, he is included in the Chelsea A squad for the first leg of their Europa Conference League qualifier against Servette at Stamford Bridge on Thursday and therefore, could make an appearance.

Speaking ahead of the match, Maresca detailed the situation surrounding his issues with the squad size.

He said: “I am not working with 42 players. I am working with 21 players.

“The other 15-20 players are training apart. I don’t see them. It’s not a mess like it looks from outside. Absolutely not.

“They can even have 20 years contract, it’s not my point. I don’t care”.

Another of the notable players that has seemingly fallen out of favour with the new Chelsea boss, is Raheem Sterling, who was a surprise omission from the squad for the match against his former club Manchester City on Sunday.

Following the announcement of the squad for the game, Sterling’s representatives released a statement asking for clarity on his future with the club.
