England ended their group stage campaign with a 0-0 draw.

England drew 0-0 with Slovenia to qualify for the Euro 2024 knockout stages automatically – but it wasn’t a match that will live long in the memory.

Gareth Southgate decided to make one change from the 1-1 draw with Denmark, bringing in Conor Gallagher for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

England had over 70 per cent of the ball possession throughout the contest, but clear cut chances were at a premium.

Didn’t have a huge impact on the game. One foray into the penalty area in the second half but miscued his cross. Ended the game at left-back.

Fulfilled his defensive duties where needed and solid in possession on the whole. Had a potentially goalbound header blocked in the second half.

Adds an element of composure to England’s play and tried to force the issue by stepping into midfield, but did take a yellow card for a pullback in the second half.

Kieran Trippier – 5

Got caught out a couple of times early on while attempting to get up the pitch. Superb cross at the back post was inches away from Kane in the first half. Playing through fitness issues and taken off with 10 minutes to play.

Declan Rice – 6

Defence-splitting pass to Foden – who was narrowly offside – his highlight of the first half. Solid in midfield but not playing the same role he does with such aplomb at Arsenal.

Conor Gallagher – 5

Gave the ball away cheaply a few times early on. Was Southgate’s only change but didn’t make the required impact. Hooked at half-time.

Thought he’d tapped in England’s opener only to see Phil Foden offside. Had a relatively quiet first half but brighter in the second. Introduction of Kobbie Mainoo on the right seemed to help him before he was substituted with 20 minutes to go.

Jude Bellingham – 5

Not hugely involved in the first half. Couple of nice touches but also lost possession on a few occasions. Not quite at the level of his Serbia performance.

Phil Foden – 7

Looked lively with some intelligent runs off the ball early on. Drove forward with the ball too and had good delivery from set pieces. His best display of the tournament.

Harry Kane – 6

Had two long-range efforts in the first half and narrowly failed to convert a Trippier cross. Just not quite happening for him at the moment even though he was more involved.

Kobbie Mainoo – 6

Took Gallagher’s place at half time and added something extra to England’s midfield. You’d expect him to start in the last 16 based on this performance.

Cole Palmer – 6

Fans were crying out to see him play some role. Looked bright and had perhaps England’s best chance when his late effort was saved. Could do with more opportunities.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – N/A

Ended the game at right-back in place of Trippier, with Walker moving to left-back. Not enough time to influence although did fire a long-range shot offer – some would argue he should be back in the team for the last 16.

Another player who finally got his Euros bow but only on the pitch for a matter of minutes.
