England player ratings as Three Lions seal Euro 2024 quarter-final place after beating Slovakia

England are in the last eight of Euro 2024 after beating Slovakia.

England are through to the last eight of Euro 2024 after a hard-fought victory over Slovakia.

After somewhat stumbling through the group stage, England were back in Euro 2024 action as they took on Slovakia at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

In the first half, Gareth Southgate’s men were nowhere to be seen as Slovakia dominated proceedings and were rewarded when Ivan Schranz scored in the 25th minute after some horrible defending from England.

In the second half, the Three Lions improved slightly as they looked to get back into the match.

Deep into stoppage time, Jude Bellingham scored a stunning overhead kick to keep England’s hopes alive.

At the start of extra-time, Harry Kane stepped up and headed England in front.

Here is how we rated the England players as Southgate’s men head to the last eight.

Jordan Pickford – 5

Advert

Not much to do apart from pick the ball out of his net.

Kyle Walker – 4

Dismal in the first half, constantly caught out of position. But like England, better in extra-time.

John Stones – 5

Advert

Sloppy with the ball at times but marshalled the defence well in the closing stages.

Marc Guehi – 5

Beaten in the air for the first goal and was booked. Looked more solid during extra-time.

Kieran Trippier – 3

Advert

Defensively dire, failed to impress going forward. Brought off due to injury in the 65th minute but should’ve been hooked at half-time.

Kobbie Mainoo – 6

Looked comfortable on the ball, drove his team forward at times. Perhaps England’s best player on the day. Brought off in the 83rd minute.

Declan Rice – 5

Advert

Not at his best and often slowed the play down. Saw his shot bounce off the post in the closing stages.

Bukayo Saka – 5

Not the same Saka as the one Arsenal fans have been used to. Moved to left-back when Cole Palmer emerged for Trippier.

Jude Bellingham – 5

Struggled to get into the match for the large parts but produced a moment of magic to keep his country in the Euros.

Phil Foden – 4

Had a goal ruled out for offside when he should not have been, had little influence in the game.

Harry Kane – 5

Nowhere in the first half, not much better in the second half but stepped up in extra time to head England in front.

Cole Palmer – 5

Subbed on the 65th minute, looked bright, took his defenders on.

Eberechi Eze – 5

Got on the ball, drove at his defenders.

Ivan Toney – 5

It looked like it was all too late, but grabbed an assist in extra time for Kane’s goal.

Conor Gallagher – 5

Showed good energy after replacing Harry Kane in extra-time.

Ezri Konsa – 5

Made a few key blocks when brought on in the second half of extra-time.
