Chelsea launch £35m bid for little-known La Liga player as part of huge double transfer as fans ask 'who is this?'

Chelsea fans have been left a little confused.

Chelsea have launched a £35 million bid for a striker, but few fans have actually heard of him before.

Chelsea are having another busy transfer window as they look to bolster Enzo Maresca’s squad ahead of the new season.

A striker is top of the Italian coach’s shopping list, but it looks like he could well be treated to two.

Chelsea are hoping to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli on loan, as they do not want to meet the Nigerian striker’s £113m release clause.

Chelsea are hopeful that Romelu Lukaku moving in the opposite direction could help facilitate that deal, but they look set to confirm the signing of a different striker first.

Chelsea have had a package proposal worth around £35m for young striker Samu Omorodion accepted by Atletico Madrid.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the player’s representatives are now discussing personal terms with the London club.

However, Atletico will only sanction the sale of Omorodion once they complete they signing of Julian Alvarez from Manchester City.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea have not ruled out signing Osimhen as well as Omorodion, with both joining Nicolas Jackson as the three strikers in Maresca’s squad.

The 20-year-old joined Atletico last summer, but has not played a single competitive match for the club as he spent las season on loan at Alaves, where he scored eight goals in 34 La Liga appearances.

While he has played in the Spanish top flight, plenty of Chelsea fans are sceptical about the club’s decision to spend a decent amount on a relatively unproven talent.

“Confused club,” one fan wrote on X, while another commented “this club is a joke.”

A third said: “Chelsea keep buying every random player available in the market.”

“Another random signing from Todd Boehly, he really came in and turned Chelsea into a mid table club,” a fourth wrote.

In a separate deal, Conor Gallagher is close to completing a £33.7m switch to Atletico after rejecting the offer of a new contract at Chelsea.
