Arsenal working on blockbuster signing who will help them win the Premier League title

Arsenal are looking to add to their squad before the transfer deadline, with a huge signing targeted.

Arsenal are reportedly working on a blockbuster signing which could give them a huge boost in their Premier League title ambitions.

Having failed to knock Manchester City off their perch for the last two seasons, the Gunners’ only bit of business so far has been the £42 million capture of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.

They are expected to add Spain and Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino to the ranks but there’s word on Arsenal potentially making a late attempt for a marquee transfer.

Corriere dello Sport say Arsenal could do more shopping in Serie A and are “back on the trail” for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Nigerian striker in the past but their interest appeared to drop.

But the Italian outlet say Arsenal are rethinking a potential deal for Osimhen, who is also admired by Chelsea and received an offer from Paris Saint-Germain.

Napoli were not budging from Osimhen’s £111 million release earlier on in the window but the report claims they are now prepared to accept £85 million for the 25-year-old.

The three-time Serie A champions are still working towards bringing Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea – though the two parties are yet to agree a deal.

Osimhen is one of the best strikers around and has scored 76 goals and laid on 18 assists in 133 appearances for Napoli.

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres is seen as an alternative and hit 43 goals in a title-winning season last term.

However Sporting stipulate that his £85 million release clause must be paid in full, putting Arsenal off a deal.

A striker is still seen as a priority for the North London club, with Eddie Nketiah available for the right transfer fee and Gabriel Jesus struggling since his move to the Emirates Stadium.

Kai Havertz played centrally for large spells last season and started the new campaign with a goal and an assist against Wolves last weekend.
