Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set for shock Championship move before transfer deadline

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could return to England after spending last season at Besiktas.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could return to England in the shape of a shock transfer to a Championship club, according to a report.

Oxlade-Chamberlain called time on his Liverpool career by signing for Besiktas last summer.

He penned a three-year deal with the Turkish giants as he made 30 appearances across all competitions last season.

Despite having two years left on his existing contract, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been linked with a move away from Turkey.

They are reportedly willing to let the midfielder leave this summer.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was looking for a return to the Premier League following his spells at Arsenal and Liverpool but may now be open to a top Championship club as his next destination.

According to a report, Sheffield United are lining up an ambitious offer to take the 30-year-old on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.

The report claims he earns £2.2 million-per-season at Besiktas, which equates to around £42,000-per-week.

Sheff United are hoping for an instant return to the top flight following their relegation last season.

And if the Blades could acquire the services of the ex-England international, then they’d increase their chances of promotion.

Speaking after their 2-0 victory over Preston North End on Friday, Chris Wilder revealed his side are ‘close’ to completing a couple of transfers.

“I’d like to think so. We’re pretty close on a couple, even though I thought once again the kids who came on were excellent. Alfie [Gilchrist] didn’t really do a lot of work, [Harry] Souttar’s not really played a lot of games,” he said.

“So, getting them up to speed is important but knowing we’ve got the youngsters to come on, we’re in a decent place. I’m not one to get carried away too much.

“We’re delighted we’re off and running, that win is so important, but we’ll dust ourselves down and look forward to another positive week hopefully on and off the pitch.”
