Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Las Vegas Raiders backup QB Aidan O’Connell played a surprisingly tough game on Black Friday, with the home team barely edging the visitors, 19-17.
While Mahomes and the Chiefs were expected to easily handle the Raiders—who were on a seven-game losing streak heading into the game and lost their starting quarterback, Gardner Minshew, in Week 12—that was far from the case. Antonio Pierce’s men fought hard from start to finish, even taking the 17-16 lead early in the fourth quarter.
A Matthew Wright 32-yard field goal gave the Chiefs back the lead, and they held on for the win after a costly fumble towards the end doomed the Raiders’ comeback hopes.
Mahomes finished with 306 yards and a touchdown on 26-of-46 pass completion. Meanwhile, O’Connell also impressed as he completed 23 of his 35 passes for 340 yards and two touchdowns.
It was a well-fought game between the two sides, and both quarterbacks made sure to show their respect for each other with a postgame handshake.
The NFL shared the moment on social media with the caption, “All respect between AOC and Mahomes.”
Sure enough, the moment quickly drew the attention of fans, with many loving the acknowledgment that the two QBs gave each other.
“They are so cool and so much fun,” a fan added.
A supporter further stated, “All love and mutual respect between AOC and Mahomes. Greatness recognizing greatness!”
“Real knows real,” a fifth fan shared. Another one wrote, “So much respect.”
While the Raiders have suffered their eighth straight loss, there are still plenty of positives to take away from the game. They played hard and almost pulled off a stunner against the defending Super Bowl champions.
As for the Chiefs, they improved to 11-1 on the season and clinched a playoff spot. Furthermore, they also continue to show that they can win in a variety of ways, even in ugly games.
