The Kansas City Chiefs stayed undefeated on Sunday, defeating the San Francisco 49ers, 28-18. The Chiefs are 6-0 for just the third time in franchise history and the first time since 2013.

Despite the historic start, however, Mahomes has continued to struggle statistically so far this season. He finished Sunday with 154 passing yards, no passing touchdowns and two interceptions. He was able to pick up 39 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Through six games, Mahomes has thrown 1,389 passing yards, six passing touchdowns and eight interceptions. He currently has a 61 quarterback rating, which would be the lowest of his career if it holds. He is also on-pace to finish the year with 23 interceptions, which would be a career-high. … all of which have Chiefs fans surely saying the same thing about how good KC will be when Mahomes reaches his usual “another level.”

Regardless, though, the Chiefs are off to the best start of Mahomes’ career through six games. A lot of that can be credited to Kansas City’s defense, but it’s also a testament to the winning culture that Andy Reid has instilled in the Chiefs.

Kansas City did lose JuJu Smith-Schuster for the day with a hamstring injury, and it’s unclear how long he’ll be out There have been many reports that the Chiefs have been searching for a receiver in the trade market. Perhaps bringing in a new veteran weapon is exactly what Mahomes needs to get his season back on track from a statistical standpoint.

Regardless, if Kansas City continues to win and can secure the top spot in the AFC, anything can happen once Mahomes is in the playoffs.
