Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark recently spoke with ESPN reporter Monica McNutt and WNBA legend Sue Bird, sharing her thoughts on the future of the league.

Following a historic season in which Clark was named the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year award and cemented herself as one of the best players in the league at 22 years old, the young star mentioned it’s only the beginning.

She thinks the WNBA is just scratching the surface of what it can become, seemingly referring to the talent and popularity of the sport.

“I feel like we are just scratching the surface on what the W and women’s basketball can be,” Clark said.

During the 2024 season, Clark’s rookie year, the league enjoyed tremendous rises in viewership and ticket sales.

The WNBA had more than 54 million viewers across all platforms, including ESPN, ESPN2, ION, NBA TV, ABC and CBS, as of the league’s official release in September. The league attracted an average of 1.19 million viewers on ESPN platforms, marking a 170% increase from the 2023 season.

In terms of ticket sales, the WNBA had its highest total attendance in 22 years. The league brought in a combined 2,353,735 fans, which is a 48% increase from last season.

Clark had incredible success. She averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists per game. The rookie led the WNBA in average assists and the rookie class in average points.

During her first year in the league, Clark secured the single-season rookie record for assists (337) and 3-pointers (122).
