It wasn’t pretty, but the Kansas City Chiefs have continued their undefeated start to the season with a 28-18 win over the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium.

In a game that saw the Chiefs play well in all three phases, the offense, led by a rushing attack that wore the 49ers defense down, along with a defense that intercepted Brock Purdy three times to keep Patrick Mahomes’ record against San Francisco perfect.

For head coach Andy Reid, he was glowing in praise for how his team came into enemy territory and walked out with a win.

“Overall, I thought it was a good team performance,” Reid said. ” A lot of good things that happened on the defensive side, the offensive side, special teams. Offensively, 184 yards rushing, who would think Pat Mahomes and talking about runs, but he had a couple of nice ones. All three running backs did a heck of a job. Defensively, I thought we played great football, three picks against a real good offense.”

As has been the case this season, Mahomes wasn’t at his best, going 16 of 27 for 154 yards and two interceptions, but when plays had to be made, such as a 33-yard run on second-and-seven, as he scampered down to the goal line, he made them.

Steve Spagnuolo’s defense only allowed two third-down conversions while also forcing four punts against the much-vaunted 49ers offense. And then there was Mecole Hardman’s 55-yard punt return, which helped set the offense up in great field position.

As Reid stated, it was a true team performance as the Chiefs, while not firing on all cylinders, still managed to go into the 49ers’ house, and maintain their undefeated start to the season
