San Francisco 49ers rookie Malik Mustapha has responded after making headlines for the wrong reasons on Sunday.

NFL fans tuned in by the millions for the Super Bowl LVIII rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and the 49ers. They watched Patrick Mahomes back up February’s win over San Francisco, featuring a play that will live in his and Mustapha’s highlight reels for the rest of their careers.

The 22-year-old suffered one of the worst fates in football: getting hit with the “truck stick.” His reaction perfectly summed up the humbling moment dished out by one of the NFL’s most recognizable stars.

In the fourth quarter, the Chiefs were clinging onto a 14-12 lead when their two-time NFL MVP quarterback took the game into his own hands. Facing a critical fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line, Mahomes opted to call his own number.

He met Mustapha head-on at the goal line, flattening the rookie and then staring him down after plunging into the end zone to help give Kansas City a two-possession lead.

Thanks in part to the viral touchdown run, the Chiefs left Levi’s Stadium with a 28-18 win to move to 6-0 on the season in their quest for a Lombardi Trophy three-peat.

After the loss, Mustapha took to his Instagram stories to share this eight-word message about the unforgettable play.

“Well there’s my welcome to the nfl moment,” he typed on a black screen on his Instagram story, followed by an upside-down smiling face emoji.
