Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is not under any illusions about his team’s form despite its great 3-0 start.

With wins over the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, and now the Atlanta Falcons, one could say that Kansas City is rolling to begin the season; however, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The offense has been scratchy, and the defense, while for the most part, has played solid football, there’s still room for improvement…and Mahomes knows it.

“We haven’t played good, I mean really all three games,” Mahomes said. “We’ve been able to win, I mean that speaks to the character of the team, the grit, how we’ve been in these situations before.”

The mark of a good team is to win even when not playing well, and the Chiefs have gotten out of the gate hot in terms of winning football games.

But Mahomes has turned the ball over in every game this season (four interceptions already) and is only averaging 219 passing yards per game. The offense continues to do its thing without Travis Kelce making an impact, and one can imagine what the unit looks like when Kelce starts firing.

Steve Spagnuolo’s defense has been stout, allowing only 20.7 points and forcing a turnover in each game this season. Thus, while both sides of the ball are going reasonably well, there is still ample room for improvement.

And considering the Chiefs have already beaten the Ravens and Bengals while not playing their best football, that is a scary omen for the rest of the NFL.

This Kansas City team is 3-0 and has yet to hit its stride. What happens when they do?
