WNBA star Caitlin Clark and her boyfriend Connor McCaffery attended the Indiana Pacers game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday night. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was also in attendance.

Clark and McCaffery were easy to spot at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse arena, seated courtside on Tyrese Haliburton’s seats. Commissioner Silver was interviewed on Pacers TV, where he briefly discussed the significance of Clark’s appearance and her contributions to the WNBA.

“Caitlin Clark set the world on fire, not just this community,” Silver said. “She’s brought so much attention to the entire [WNBA]. People are seeing how deep this league is, how good the quality of basketball is. … It’s wonderful to see.”

Caitlin Clark’s successful rookie season

Caitlin Clark, the top pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft, was selected by the Indiana Fever and quickly became the team’s star player. Her rapid rise to prominence, reminiscent of LeBron James’ entry into the NBA in 2003, captivated fans and analysts alike.

During her college career for the Iowa Hawkeyes, Clark notched a plethora of accolades. She was a three-time NCAA Division I scoring leader, three-time NCAA Division I assists leader and two-time NCAA Division I three-point leader. Clark also became a three-time Big Ten Player of the Year, three-time Big Ten tournament champion and three-time Big Ten tournament MVP.

All these accolades led to a lot of hype ahead of her WNBA debut. As expected, her dominance in college carried over to her professional career. Clark was named the Rookie of the Year, averaging 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. Her efforts also translated in her being selected as part of the All-WNBA First Team.

Due to the performances that she delivered, Clark set a lot of WNBA records in her rookie season.

She now holds numerous WNBA records, including most points and assists in a rookie season, most assists in a single game (19), fastest to reach 350 points and 150 assists, fastest to hit 100 three-pointers, first to record a line of 20+ points, 15+ assists, and 5+ rebounds in a game, first rookie to record two triple-doubles, and the first player to be named Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month simultaneously.

Clark has undoubtedly lived up to the hype, and fans and analysts are now excited to see what else she has in store for next season.
