Kate Middleton Pays Homage To Princess Diana In Polka-Dot Dress While Donning Her Earrings

Princess Diana is still considered a true style icon, not just to women around the world but to those in the royal family as well. Although Kate Middleton never met her mother-in-law before Diana’s untimely passing in 1997, it’s clear she’s played a strong influence on her, especially sartorially. With her signature coiffed hair, appreciation of bright patterns, admiration for creative necklaces, and ability to make any dress look classy, everyone can admit that Princess Diana was a fashion icon.

Many publications, such as Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Elle and similar magazines, covered the People’s Princess’s often daring fashion choices in detail while she was still alive. And even decades later, she is still regarded as one of the big fashion icons and style legends of the 20th century. Diana’s simple yet elegant style has inspired countless people. Other prominent, younger members of the royal family are still regularly compared to her, such as her daughter-in-law, Middleton.

The Duchess of Cambridge has been a favorite among royal fans ever since she married Prince William in 2011. After her wedding, she gracefully took on the role of a senior member of the royal family, and one of the things she is best known for is her impeccable sense of style. From coat dresses to skirt suits, she has added her own signature style to every outfit she chooses.

She has inspired countless women across the world to follow in her footsteps and follow a sensible and modest style that is also powerful and classy. Middleton has perfectly bridged the gap of her signature fashion sense with royal dressing rules as she prepares to become Queen Consort one day.

The powerful couple attended the fourth day of the event. Prince William and Middleton led the royal family in a traditional carriage procession that traveled along the famous race track before beginning the races.

The crowd was more than happy to see the royal family at the races. However, people were also more than happy to see that Middleton was wearing an iconic dress that paid tribute to her mother-in-law. She was dressed in a polka-dot dress that resembled the same dress her mother-in-law wore many years prior. In 1986 Princess Diana wore a very similar dress to another race event, the Epsom Derby. She also wore a polka-dot dress in 1988 to the Royal Ascot horseraces.

Not only did Middleton dress like her late mother-in-law, but she also wore Diana’s earrings. The beautiful South-Sea pearl earrings were worn by Diana many times at different public appearances, such as in 1992 in Budapest for the English National Ballet Gala Performance. After her passing, her two sons Prince William and Prince Harry received their mother’s jewelry collection, according to People.

The 2022 races were not the first time that the Duchess of Cambridge has worn polka-dots. She has been spotted in the style in 2017 at Wimbledon. Vogue reported that this polka-dot look also paid tribute to the movie, “Pretty Woman,” which was released in 1990.

On top of that, The Telegraph reported that Middleton may inherit Diana’s famous moniker: “The Duchess, naturally, has been endlessly compared to Diana … all have led to whispers of a new ‘People’s Princess.'”

The Duchess of Cambridge has already proven to be a great asset to the royal family, and as Page Six reported, “The Diana Chronicles” author Tina Brown said the future of the British kingdom is now resting on the “slim shoulders” of Middleton. She remains true to herself while she makes way for the possibility that she may become the Queen Consort in the next decade or two.

Anthony McGrath, a celebrity stylist, and lecturer at the Fashion Retail Academy in London explained to Harper’s Bazaar how Kate’s style has changed over the years and how she’s expertly integrated her personal style with the fashion rules she’s expected to follow as a member of the royal family. On her pre-royal style, McGrath said:

“Since Kate has been in the limelight she has always been somewhat of a conservative dresser, whether that was because she wanted to prove herself to the Royal Family or was her own personal style, who knows, but she was rarely seen in anything too risqué. However, since marrying Prince William and officially becoming a member of the Royal Family, her outfits have certainly become more modest … She had to leave behind the flirty and floaty dress, thigh-skimming minis and low-cut evening gowns.”
