Academy Award winner Matt Damon is among the best the film industry can have. But would anyone have imagined that one of his acts would save a life? Probably not. Damon rose to prominence with comedic roles primarily before making headlines as Jason Bourne. Therefore, a cameo in 2004’s Eurotrip somehow became a life-saving escapade for him.

While Eurotrip wasn’t a commercial success, it eventually turned into a cult classic. This was mainly because of an iconic track that was attached to the film. Originally performed by the band Lustra, the track Scotty Doesn’t Know was played in Matt Damon’s cameo, which turned the song into a worldwide sensation, in the movie, and in real as well.

Directed by Jeff Schaffer, Eurotrip spun around Scott Mechlowicz’s Scott Thomas, who was cheated on by his girlfriend Fiona, played by Kristin Kreuk, and Matt Damon’s Donny. Scott comes to realize their affair at his graduation party when Donny, a band singer, performs Scotty Doesn’t Know in front of the crowd.

Following the scene, the track became a classic among fans of that era, still to be heard among the millennial crowd today. Band Lustra’s Nick Cloutman opened up about the interesting stories people have come to them with that revolve around the song. Hence, he spoke of a woman who recovered from a coma after hearing Scotty Doesn’t Know. According to Uproxx, Cloutman said a woman from somewhere around the Midwest or Indiana was in a car accident and slipped into a coma, given the severity of her injuries.

Narrated to them by her friend, Cloutman recalled,

“This girl was dragged out of the car by paramedics and was put on a stretcher and ultimately went into a coma. As she was slipping into this coma, her phone started ringing and she had the ‘Scotty Doesn’t Know’ ringtone. In her dazed state, she started singing along to it. It’s one of those things where you don’t consider you’re going to be attached to something that has this positive meaning for people.”
Naturally, the singer was moved by the revelation. Even though the band deserves the credit, Damon’s cameo is what vaulted the track to greater heights and saved a life.

While we know Matt Damon as the best, it’s impossible that as an actor, he never stumbled on a bad script. The actor once recollected a nightmare of an experience he had while filming a movie but couldn’t back out. Even his family suffered. According to an interview with Jake’s Takes, amid Oppenheimer promotions, Damon revealed,

“Without naming any particular movies…sometimes you find yourself in a movie that you know, perhaps, might not be what you had hoped it would be, and you’re still making it. And I remember halfway through production and you’ve still got months to go and you’ve taken your family somewhere, you know, and you’ve inconvenienced them, and I remember my wife pulling me up because I fell into a depression about like, what have I done?”

The Jason Bourne actor lauded his wife for bearing with him and having his back throughout. While the movie he was referring to remains unnamed, some of Damon’s poorly performing films are The Great Wall, Suburbicon, and The Monuments Men. However, the professional in him urged him to give his best even though he knew the movie isn’t up to the standards.
