DiCaprio has forged his long and astounding career with movies that mostly shine on the top with accolades, his adroit performance in Killers of the Flower Moon was no exception rather many critics and fans hailed the actor’s ‎Ernest Burkhart as masterful. So, it is a shocker not to see DiCaprio being omitted from the 2024 Screen Actors Guild nods.

Leonardo DiCaprio has put a marvelous performance in Martin Scorsese’s epic Western crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon. Of course, it’s no surprise seeing the actor’s one of the greatest performances as he has never failed to deliver the best of his prowess. But DiCaprio has a history of awards shows primarily getting snubbed despite his remarkable feat as an actor over the years with a cluster of masterful roles to his credit. Finally, DiCaprio won his first Oscar playing Hugh Glass— a legendary frontiersman left to die by his hunting crew, survived with a glimmer of hope for revenge in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s 2015 Western action thriller The Revenant.

DiCaprio got seven Oscar nods, winning one in his glorious career. Of course, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was not very harsh in acknowledging the actor’s performances crediting him with 14 total nods and three wins. The actor has 12 Screen Actors Guild Awards nods, surprisingly synonyms with Oscars, winning one for The Revenant. Arguably, DiCaprio deserved the win as he put his soul on the line while preparing for the role moving ahead of his lifestyle doing what is unthinkable for many. Back to 2024 SAG, the surprise remained, many fans believe, at least, the actor deserved a nod for his role in the recent Scorsese masterpiece. The director, however, got Directors Guild Awards nods alongside Greta Gerwig, Yorgos Lanthimos, Alexander Payne, and Christopher Nolan.

Scorsese and DiCaprio have been long-time collaborators, the actor-director duo have made six films including Gangs of New York, and The Departed, often regarded as some of the best movies of their career. In its essence, casting DiCaprio in the latest Scorsese movie was no shocker, what’s great about Leo, “and it’s why we work together so often, is, he goes there,” Scorsese said of the 49-year-old while speaking with Deadline.

“He goes to these weird places that are so difficult and convoluted, and through the convolution, somehow there’s a clarity that we reach. And usually it’s in the expression, in his face, in his eyes. I’ve always told him this. He’s a natural film actor. I could shoot a close-up of him, he could be thinking of nothing, and I could intercut anything with it, and people will say, ‘Oh, he’s reacting to such and such.’ It’s the Kuleshov experiment. You could do that with him.”

The director went on to add that there’s something “in his face that the camera locks into, in his eyes.”

“The slightest movement, we know it. Thelma [Schoonmaker], editing his footage with me over the years, she often goes, ‘Look at this. Look at the eye movement here. I think we should keep it.’ It’s very interesting, what goes on behind the eyes. It’s all there.”

The movie worked, of course, it would be insulting to even doubt Scorsese’s prowess as a visionary filmmaker of the generation and the outcome of the movie is self-explanatory. And DiCaprio with his co-stars did what he does best on screen.
