Justin Bieber is reportedly being sued by Casey Dienel – aka White Hinterland – for their hit song ‘Sorry’.
She said the track is too similar to ‘Ring The Bell’ from her 2014 album Baby.
The 31-year-old American singer has accused Bieber of ripping off the “unique characteristics of the female vocal”.
Skrillex is reportedly listed as a defendant in the suit, as he produced the track.
Ms. Dienel claims her vocal riff can be heard six times in ‘Sorry’.
According to TMZ, she has also claimed the songs are too similar as they both use keyboard synthesizers, samples, synth bass, drums and percussion.
However, this second claim may be hard to prove in court, as many songs use these features in some way or another.
She also pointed it out it was likely her song was copied as it was popular, streamed more than 800,000 times online, and was well-received by Rolling Stone magazine.
Ms. Dienel is asking Justin Bieber to stop performing the track, and has asked for an unspecified amount of money in compensation.
TMZ reported she claims to have asked Justin Bieber to stop performing the track in December, but he didn’t reply.
‘Sorry’ was recorded by Bieber for his fourth studio album, Purpose, and was released in October last year.
It spent three weeks at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and seven weeks at the top of the Canadian Hot 100 chart.
The vocal riff accused of being ripped off can allegedly be heard in the first few seconds of each track.
The Telegraph has contacted Justin Bieber’s spokesperson for comment.
