Justin Bieber has been slammed for seemingly making a dig at ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez.

The singer celebrated turning 29 with a big party where he celebrated with his family and friends over the weekend.

One of the party favours guests received was a silver metal lighter that bore the words: “I’m so thankful that I didn’t end up with what I thought I wanted.”

While Bieber did not address the meaning behind the souvenir, Gomez’s fans assumed it was a “petty” slight at the actress.
One fan tweeted: “This gift says ‘still living in the past’ to me.”

Another wrote: “This is so petty. I mean if that’s the way you and your wife feel keep that petty sh** to yourself !”

A third commented: “Admitting that your wife was your second choice on your birthday is crazy… Selena truly lives in his mind rent free.”

A fourth added: “If you love Hailey, why are you so focused on your ex on your birthday?”

Another said: “This is pathetic! Justin’s insecure to diss Selena and try to embarass her with this ‘in joke’ with your friends. Let her live!”

However some came to the Peaches singer’s defence, writing: “Can’t believe people are interpreting this negatively. Justin is saying he’s grateful for the life he has as is.”

While another replied: “Right! He’s literally referring to being out of the spotlight.”

Bieber and Gomez dated on and off for eight years, finally ending their romance in 2018.

Just two months later he proposed to Hailey Baldwin and they tied the knot later that year.

Shortly after Bieber was accused of making the dig at his birthday, Gomez posted a video of herself doing a makeup tutorial on TikTok.

She wrote: “Thank you and love you all so much.

“I’m deeply grateful for each and every one of you humans. You make me unbelievably happy.”

A second comment read: “Please, please be kinder and consider others’ mental health.

“My heart has been heavy and I only want good for everyone. All my love.”
