James Gunn has already confirmed that Peacemaker is not getting a reboot in the new DC Universe. While the previous season took place in the old DC Extended Universe, many are confused about the status of the upcoming Season 2 with the upcoming DCU. Given that the new DCU is said to be a soft reboot, whether would it affect Season 2 is surely a big concern. However, the director took to Threads to reply,
“You’ll have to wait and see how that works out!”
A user further asked whether it be confusing to have a season 2 of a different universe. It would have been more convenient if they would have gone on with a new show.
To that, Gunn responded,
“Because it’s my favorite thing to do, it’s the biggest original Max show ever, and I have a way in. It won’t be confusing.”
Instead of rebooting the series, he had a good reason to move ahead with the second season. The filmmaker has already clarified that the characters will remain canon to the DCU in the upcoming season.

While the new DCU is yet to begin, several Peacemaker characters have been confirmed to return in the new DCU. With the new characters set to debut in live-action, over 30 DCEU characters have been confirmed canon so far.
From the series, John Cena as Peacemaker, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Freddie Stroma as Vigilante among more have been confirmed to reprise their roles in the DCU. Since Gunn has already clarified about the show continuing its previous series, it is yet to see how they would implement the same. Given that the show is now a part of the DCU timeline, fans have to wait for a long while to watch the upcoming season which is currently in its pre-production phase.
The Guardians of the Galaxy director has already confirmed that the season will likely be released after Superman: Legacy. Given that the project is slated for a July 11, 2025 release, season 2 is yet far. Meanwhile, Peacemaker Season 1 is available on Max.
