Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and his rapper girlfriend Nadia Nakai let the country into one of their homes and relationship in their first and last interview together in an episode of The Insider SA.

In the insert, the couple spoke about their first date, who was more romantic and the significance of their matching tattoos.
Nadia Nakai said in a previous interview that her relationship with the rapper felt like “something that God did”.

Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and Nadia Nakai let the country into one of their homes and relationship in their first and last interview together in the most recent episode of The Insider SA.

Filmed before the Jealousy hitmaker and his long-time friend, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, were gunned down in Durban last week, the couple let viewers of the lifestyle show into their kitchen as they showcased their culinary skills and their love for each other.

The episode, which aired on Monday evening, and repeats on Sunday at 13:00, also featured other South African favourite couples, such as Joshua and Alissa Maistry and CJ Stander and his wife, Jean-Marie Neethling Stander.

The couple prepared mac ‘n’ cheese and mince, however Nakai noted that she initially planned to prepare lasagna, and added that she was better at making it.

She praised the famed rapper for being good at spicing meat, and he added that a lot of things he prepared were from his childhood and that he only “got into cooking” as he got older. Bragga, as Nadia Nakai is also referred to, then opened up about their first date, saying it was at AKA’s house.

She added that he cooked, lit candles and “he was very romantic”. The couple then shared their favourite activity – “being at home,” they concurred.

On how their love story started Nakai said they first met while she was working for Icon. AKA added that the relationship blossomed “organically”.

Speaking about the matching tattoos they inked on their forearms in November, Supa Mega said he liked the idea “because it’s for life”.

Explaining the tattoos, AKA said: “So, it’s a sword, Excalibur, which is the sword of King Arthur. And half of the face is a male lion, and the other half is a lioness, and when you put them together, you get the lion king and queen.”

Last month, the couple travelled to the United States ahead of AKA’s 35th birthday. Nakai said, wishing him a happy birthday: “Happy Birthday, my baby! I love you so much You protect me so much! And lift me up… I learn so much from you every day! And have the most fun with you! I’m so proud of you! You’re my blessing!”

In a December interview on Kaya 959, Nakai opened up about her relationship with the rapper. She said it was “crazy” because she did not interact with him until the end of her contract with her former record label, Family Tree.

“It was just like it just happened the way that it happened, and I don’t know how to explain it, but it feels like something that God did; God placed us together when we really needed each other at that time,” she told breakfast show hosts Sol Phenduka and Sammy T, who was standing in for Dineo Ranaka. “And it’s just beautiful.”

Before dating Nakai, AKA was engaged to Anele Tembe. She fell to her death from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel on Loop Street, Cape Town, in April 2021.

In an October interview with DRUM, AKA said he could not be happier in his relationship with Nakai.

“I am in a fantastic place. Love is in the air,” he told the publication. “Nadia and I have been together for about a year and just enjoying each other.”
