In recent years, no single individual has landed himself in any controversy as deep as Kanye West has with some powerful words of opinions and beliefs about certain things. Before his Anti-Semitic comments landed him in hot waters and almost destroyed his career and empire, the star had once put former President George W. Bush on blast during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Appearing on live television, the star went on about how this disaster was hurting the Black community and finished off the statement by calling Bush an individual who didn’t care about Black people.

The track record of severe controversies that Rapper Kanye West has surrounded himself with in the past few years makes many controversial celebrities and individuals look like amateurs. Whether it be through his words or his actions, there’s almost no avenue where he hasn’t left that negative mark. Thus, it shouldn’t surprise you to know that he once decided to make a very controversial claim about former President George W. Bush.

During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, NBC hosted a Relief Concert titled A Concert for Hurricane Relief just a day after, where Yeezy was introduced as a presenter alongside Mike Myers. They were given a script from the teleprompter to make their comments on the disaster that had struck New Orleans and had caused irreparable damage to the state.

While Myers stuck to the scripted lines, West decided to go off-script and talk about his observations on the situation, which was directly targeted at then-president George W. Bush. At the time when Katrina struck New Orleans, Bush was taking an extended vacation in Texas, which made it look like he was very disjointed from the whole disaster and how it affected the citizens.

Thus, the I Wonder singer first made comments about how the media was showing Black and White families in different lights during the disaster while also suggesting that the military had been permitted to shoot Black people. This rambling went on for a couple of minutes until it was Myers’ turn again. But West left the entire studio baffled when he made this comment:
George Bush doesn’t care about Black people.”

This was by far one of his strongest remarks made during the broadcast, which became an iconic moment in TV history.

This wasn’t the first or last time that we saw the Grammy Award-winning Hip Hop star get into controversies, may it be with other stars, Presidents, or even entire beliefs.

After 2005, West was seen interrupting Taylor Swift while she was receiving her MTV VMA for Best Female Video Award, claiming that Beyonce should’ve deserved it, which started a feud between the two. Apart from that, he’s infamous for glorifying the Nazis and throwing Anti-Semitic comments around, which has been called out and criticized by Presidents such as Donald Trump and Joe Biden in recent years.
