Her family said the driver, a man in his early 40s, was trying to escape a previous hit-and-run and hit several cars before striking into a food stand where Bernans and a friend were walking.

Bernans was knocked unconscious and pinned under the stand.

She has suffered multiple broken bones and fractures but is expected to recover, according to her family.

In total, nine people were injured in the crash, including three police officers.

“Amidst the chaos of the New Year’s incident, she’s holding onto an immense sense of gratitude for life itself,” said Bernan’s mother, Patricia Lee in a statement.

“This setback hasn’t deterred her belief that something remarkable is still being crafted by God. Despite the injuries sustained in the collision caused by a hit-and-run in NYC, she’s filled with hope and faith in the unfolding of a beautiful new chapter. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she navigates this path toward recovery and new beginnings.”

The driver was caught by police shortly after the crash and was arrested, however, his name has not been released.

Bernans is out of surgery and is now recovering.

She is a mother of a newborn son, who family members said was safe and with relatives at a hotel at the time of the crash.

Bernans’ mother shared a graphic photo of her daughter’s injuries and asked for fans to share their favorite “teeth makeover places” in Atlanta and Los Angeles.

“Thank you to all the first responders, police, strangers, my friend Katherine, family & friends who’s helped her.”

Bernans shared a video from her hospital bed, posting it to her Instagram story.

“I unfortunately can’t respond to everybody that’s sending me messages but I wanna say thank you,” she said.

“I’m in so much pain and I can’t really walk right now…but I know God is good and it was just not my time.”
