Wanda Durant: The Unspoken Hero and Deserving Title of ‘the Real MVP’ in Kevin Durant’s Life

Finals MVP Kevin Durant has denied that his mother Wanda Durant is “the real MVP” despite the fact that she was named NBA Finals MVP twice (in 2014 and 2017).

Kevin and Anthony’s mother Wanda became a single parent at the age of 21 when their father abandoned them when they were babies.

It felt like we were up against an uphill battle. Although you were a single parent raising two sons by the time you were 21, you were joking, Kevin said while accepting the MVP award in 2014. We are both out of place here. A renewed trust in you washed over us. Instead of us having to sleep on the floor or go hungry, you took care of us and made sure we weren’t nude. While you were satisfied, you went ahead and fed everyone else. You likely went to bed hungry. For our sake, you sacrificed something significant. You are officially the MVP.

Working hard in spite of adversity is a lesson Wanda believes she instilled in her sons. According to her explanation to NBA.com, she kept on giving them her love, attention, presence, and full engagement. “When I took stock of my life, I saw that my boys had the chance to follow their dreams because I had hope and didn’t give up.”

She has always been Kevin’s rock, both on and off the court. These days, she’s all about helping people in underprivileged areas through her work as a motivational speaker and philanthropist.

Can anyone tell me who Wanda Durant is? Her remarkable life, her philanthropic contributions, and the important job she does now can be discovered if you keep reading.

She gives speeches to inspire others.

But many of the group’s projects have deep meaning for the Durants. The basketball courts at the university in Kevin’s hometown of Bowie, Maryland, which is in Prince George’s County, were renovated with a grant of $500,000 from the foundation in 2022.

The proud and encouraging mother, who is lovingly known as Mama Durant, is a regular interviewee and TV guest who speaks well of her son.

As she proudly told Essence in the year 2022, “I’m Kevin’s biggest fan.” So it is; he will forever be known as Kevin. There will always be some who support him and others who don’t; that’s just art of being a professional athlete. The fact that I am still his mother renders it moot. The opinions of others don’t matter. He brightens my life with his charisma and humor.
