Mrs. Doubtfire is one of Robin Williams‘ most beloved films of his career where he enthralled audiences with his mesmerizing performance as Daniel/Mrs. Doubtfire. The film was a huge success when it was released back in 1993.

At the time, ideas for a sequel were squashed as doing a follow-up film was considered a bad thing. However in 2014, a few months before Williams’ passing, there were talks between him and director Chris Columbus to do a sequel.

In an interview with Business Insider, Columbus recalled the late actor’s one request before committing to a sequel, which was about the cumbersome body suit. He said,

“He and I didn’t talk about a sequel until the year he passed away. We had a script that was written and it was the last time I saw Robin. I went to his house and we sat down and talked about it and the script was really strong. Robin’s only comment was, ‘Boss, do I have to be in the suit as much this time?’

It was physically demanding. For Robin, I think it was like running a marathon every day he was in the Doubtfire costume.”

Williams’ tragic passing put an end to plans for the sequel. His death created a huge void in Hollywood as he entertained and inspired many people through his films. His impact in Hollywood will never be forgotten and his legacy will always remain intact.

Chris Columbus Calls Robin Williams ‘A One-of-a-Kind’

Robin Williams’ improvisational skills were second to none

Chris Columbus and Robin Williams worked together on the 1993 hit Mrs. Doubtfire. Outside of their professional collaboration, they were very good friends and their children also went to school together.

Columbus told Business Insider how he and Williams would spend weekends together and thanked him for helping him get settled in San Francisco which he calls the best years of his life. He said,
“He was an incredible person. A lot of talented people that I’ve come across in this industry, they are not special people. They are talented but they are a pain in the ass. I ended up living in San Francisco for 20-plus years and those were some of the best years of my life.

I thanked Robin every day for giving me that opportunity. What made him special as a talent is the fact that there was never anyone before him and there will never be anyone ever like Robin Williams. He’s one-of-a-kind.”

Columbus also went on to praise the improvisation skills of Williams and how they used two million feet of film to capture every trick that he pulled off. This showed how talented he was and his loss was a huge void that Hollywood has never been able to fill.
