The fresh-from-the-vault track off Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) has the internet convinced.
We’re used to Taylor Swift writing song lyrics that specifically reference her famous boyfriends, so there’s no reason to think she wouldn’t have written songs about her famous friends as well. Currently the internet’s preeminent scholars of Swiftian lore are convinced that Swift’s newly released track titled “When Emma Falls in Love” is about Emma Stone.
“When Emma Falls in Love” is one of six songs “from the vault” that Swift released on Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) along with her rerecorded tracks from the original album. Fans seem to have homed in on this song in particular because the lyrics seem to reference Stone, whom Swift first befriended in 2008, per Entertainment Weekly, around the time she began writing the songs for Speak Now.

Fans on social media have noted that lyrics like, “’Cause Little Miss Sunshine always thinks it’s gonna rain / When Emma falls in love, I know / That boy will never be the same,” are similar to how, for instance, Stone’s ex-boyfriend Andrew Garfield has described the actor. “She came in and she was like a shot of espresso,” Garfield said in an interview that has gone viral on Twitter. “She’s like being bathed in sunlight.”

Said another Twitter user, highlighting the same Garfield quote and Swift lyrics, “I feel like I’m missing out by not hanging out with Emma Stone.” An Emma Stone fan account also seemed to speculate Swift’s song was about Stone and Garfield, tweeting pictures of the couple together along with the song lyrics.
But other fans think Swift was referencing her friend’s relationship with a different actor. “Taylor Swift wrote ‘When Emma Falls in Love’ when Emma Stone was dating Kieran Culkin,” noted one person on Twitter. “Everybody is saying when Emma falls in love is about Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield, but I’m on the ‘It’s about Emma Stone and Kieran Culkin’ train because i’m cultured,” wrote another.
Now I just want to know what other love songs for besties Taylor Swift has been keeping from us.
