Elon Musk’s latest round of hires at aerospace company SpaceX has found a new software engineer.

However, the special thing about this candidate is that he is just… 14 years old.

On June 8, teenager Kairan Quazi posted a post on the LinkedIn platform: “I am joining the coolest company on the planet as a software engineer on the Starlink engineering team. This is one of those rare companies that doesn’t use age to judge my maturity and ability.”

The Seattle Times reported that after the post, Kairan Quazi graduated from Santa Clara University’s engineering school. He became the youngest person to do so. Quazi plans to move with his family from Pleasanton, California to Redmond, Washington to begin working at SpaceX.

Quazi’s extraordinary journey began at the age of 2. Then he was able to speak in complete sentences. The Los Angeles Times reported that Quazi told friends and teachers in kindergarten about news clippings on the radio.

Realizing the third-grade curriculum was no longer right for his 9-year-old, Quazi’s parents enrolled him in a community college in California. It was here that Quazi felt educated at his level.

That same year, his family told BrainGain magazine that Quazi’s IQ was ranked in the top 0.1% of the world’s population.

A few months later, Quazi began an AI research internship at global research organization Intel Labs. By age 11, he transferred to Santa Clara University to study computer science and engineering.

In 2022, Quazi spent 4 months as a machine learning intern at Blackbird.AI company. According to his LinkedIn profile, he designed a system to detect manipulative content on social media.

Quazi told ABC7 News: “People often think I’m losing my childhood, but I don’t think so.” When he took the job at SpaceX, he seemed to be getting closer to his dream of solving challenging problems and creating radical innovation for the common good.
